What Boodle offers

Boodle is run by Boodle (Pty) Ltd, based in Braamfontein, Johannesburg. It is an NCR-registered credit provider that lends online.

New customers can borrow R500 to R5,000. Returning customers can borrow up to R8,000, based on repayment history and affordability. You repay over 1 to 6 months.

You apply on its website and confirm with a one-time PIN sent to your cellphone. Boodle says it will not lend to people who are already "debt stressed".

How to choose

  • Check the provider's NCR number on the NCR register. A loan-matching service must tell you which lender you'll sign with.
  • Compare the total amount you will repay, in rand, not only the interest rate.
  • On short-term loans, a first loan may cost at most 5% interest a month, an initiation fee of R165 plus 10% above R1,000 (at most R1,050, and never more than 15% of the loan), and R60 a month in service fees. VAT is added to the fees. See our responsible lending page.
  • Apply to one or two providers at a time. Many applications in a short period can hurt your credit score.
